Usual HDFC Bank EMI rates (indicative)
HDFC Bank's home-loan rate page prices adjustable-rate home loans at the policy repo rate (5.50%) plus 2.50% to 7.95%, an effective 8.00% to 13.45% p.a. for salaried and self-employed borrowers. Adjustable-rate home loans move when the repo moves; TruFixed products keep a fixed window before converting to floating.
Most borrowers are offered more than the lowest rate once credit, LTV, and loan amount are applied. New-car loans start from about 8.25%. Personal loans span 9.99% to 24.00% depending on credit score and employer. Education loans start from 10.50%.
RBI raised the repo rate from 5.25% to 5.50% on 7 October 2026, and HDFC's card had already moved up by the same 0.25% when we checked on 10 October. Use this page to model reducing-balance EMI and total interest, then compare two written offers before you pay processing fees.
Once credit, LTV, and loan amount are applied, private-bank standard slabs often land in the mid-to-high 8%s while public-sector cards stay in the 7%s for strong scores. Car loans commonly price above housing. Unsecured personal loans sit higher still and widen sharply with credit score and employer category. Education loans depend heavily on the institute and on collateral.
Under RBI external-benchmark rules, many floating retail loans reset when the policy repo moves. Your customer rate is typically benchmark + spread, which is why two applicants at the same bank can see different EMIs on the same loan amount.
Public rate cards are not a sanction. Replace the calculator default with the Key Facts Statement or sanction letter rate, then stress +0.5% to +1% before you lock tenure.
Compare identical principal and months across banks, include documented fees in total outflow, and confirm prepayment and foreclosure language on the letter before you pay processing charges.

HDFC complaints record
What HDFC reported in the complaints disclosure RBI requires in every annual report. These are the lenders' own audited figures, not reviews. RBI's ombudsman report gives totals by bank group only, so this is the one public count per lender.
| FY 2025-26 | HDFC |
|---|---|
| Complaints received | 6,27,805 (+37%) |
| Escalated to the RBI Ombudsman | 18,381 (+35%) |
| About loans and advances | 87,341 (+35%) |
Change is against the year before. Bigger lenders log more complaints because they have more customers, and each lender counts slightly differently. HDFC leaves out complaints redressed within one working day, and duplicates. Read the trend and the ombudsman share rather than ranking banks on the raw count. What borrowers report
Public signals only, each linked to where it comes from. App ratings rate the app, which most people use for payments and savings, so they say little about the loan unless the app is the loan's own.
| Lender | App | Google Play rating |
|---|---|---|
| HDFC | HDFC Bank Home Loans (loan app) | 2.6★ from 32.7K ratings |
| HDFC | HDFC Bank App | 4.6★ from 14 lakh ratings |
Ratings read on 11 Oct 2026.
A theme is listed only when we found it in more than one independent place: consumer-court rulings, news reports or complaint forums. Forums draw people with a grievance, so read these as risks to check on your sanction letter, not as a verdict on the lender. For HDFC we found no loan theme that met that bar.
Key takeaways
- Treat 8.00% p.a. as HDFC's published starting marker for home loans, not a promise for every applicant.
- Stress floating HDFC home loan EMI at +0.5% and +1% before you lock tenure.
- Personal loan rates at HDFC can more than double a housing rate; model that product separately.
- Match principal and tenure when comparing HDFC with SBI or ICICI so a longer loan cannot make the EMI look cheaper.
Worked example: ₹ 50,00,000 at 8.5% for 20 years
EMI ≈ ₹ 43,391. Over 240 months you would pay about ₹ 1,04,13,879 in total, of which roughly ₹ 54,13,879 is interest if you make no prepayments and the rate stays constant. Raise the rate toward the top of the usual HDFC home band (8% to 13.45%), or add a lump sum under Prepayments, to see how much the total interest changes. Then replace the rate with the figure on your sanction letter.
Formula: Same reducing-balance EMI formula banks use: E = P × r × (1+r)^n ÷ ((1+r)^n - 1), with r as monthly rate and n as months. Property taxes and insurance are not included in EMI unless you add them separately.
