Fixed rate or floating rate: which changes my EMI?

A fixed rate keeps the EMI steady for the fixed period. A floating rate can move when the lender resets against its benchmark, so your EMI or tenure may change. Stress-test a higher rate in the calculator before you commit.

Which loans can I calculate with this EMI calculator?

Any standard reducing-balance loan works in the main EMI calculator. There are dedicated pages for home loan EMI (house loan EMI), car loan EMI (car EMI / vehicle EMI), personal loan EMI, education loan EMI, and credit card EMI, plus a loan eligibility calculator and prepayment tool.

For gold loan EMI, business loan EMI, bike loan EMI, plot loan EMI, or land loan EMI, use the main calculator with that product’s amount, rate, and tenure. On each tool you can use Manual sliders or AI mode to describe the loan in plain English.

Will this EMI calculator match my bank’s schedule?

It follows standard reducing-balance EMI math used by most banks and lenders worldwide. Lenders may add fees, insurance, floating-rate resets, or different rounding. Use these figures to plan and compare offers from any bank, then confirm against the sanction letter and repayment schedule.

What does AI mode do?

AI mode lets you describe a loan in plain English, for example “home loan 50 lakh at 8.75% for 20 years”. The calculator fills amount, rate, and tenure from that text on your device. It does not invent a bank quote or compute EMI with generative AI; the EMI math stays the same reducing-balance formula as Manual mode.

Do you store my loan numbers?

No. Everything runs in your browser. Share links only put values in the URL on your device. There is no account and no server-side loan storage.

Flat rate vs reducing balance: what’s the difference?

Reducing-balance EMI recalculates interest on the shrinking principal each month. A flat rate applies interest on the full original principal for the whole tenure, which usually means a higher effective cost even when the quoted percentage looks lower. This EMI calculator uses reducing balance, the method most banks use for home, car, and personal loans (and for most gold, business, and bike loans too). Do processing fees and GST change the EMI?

Processing fees, stamp duty, and insurance are often paid upfront or added to the disbursed amount. They may not sit inside the basic EMI formula you see here. Credit card EMI tools on this site can show fee impact more explicitly. For bank loans, add those costs when you compare offers, not only the monthly installment.

How much EMI can I afford?

Lenders often limit total EMIs to a share of monthly income (FOIR). A common planning range is roughly 40-50% of take-home pay across all loans, but banks set their own caps. Use the loan eligibility calculator for a home loan eligibility check or personal loan eligibility estimate, leave headroom for floating-rate rises and living expenses, then confirm with your lender.

Why is most of the early EMI interest?

On a reducing-balance loan, interest each month is charged on the outstanding principal. Early on that balance is largest, so a bigger share of the EMI goes to interest and a smaller share cuts principal. Open the amortization schedule in the calculator to see the shift month by month as the principal shrinks.

Can I calculate EMI in currencies other than INR?

Yes. The calculator opens in INR and also works in USD, GBP, EUR, AED and SGD. Pick your currency from the menu in the calculator’s title bar so principal, EMI and interest totals stay in the same units. The math is the same reducing-balance method; only the currency and its number formatting change.

What does the amortization schedule show?

Each row is one EMI broken into interest, principal repaid, and the balance left after that payment. Early months are usually interest-heavy; later months repay more principal. Use it to plan prepayments and to sanity-check a bank schedule.

Does my credit score change the EMI formula?

No. EMI math uses principal, rate, and tenure. Your score mainly affects whether you get approved and at what rate. A better score can lower the rate you are offered, which then lowers EMI and total interest when you recalculate.

Can I share or bookmark my EMI results?

Yes. Share links put the inputs in the URL on your device so you can reopen the same scenario later or send it to someone else. Nothing is stored on a server. Do not put sensitive bank account details in the URL.

Why should I compare total interest, not only monthly EMI?

Two loans can show a similar EMI while one costs far more over the full tenure, especially when tenure is stretched or fees are financed. Use this EMI calculator to check monthly fit, then compare total payment and interest before you choose an offer. A lower EMI with more months is not automatically a cheaper loan.

Still comparing offers? Use compare loan offers, prepayment, or the loan guides.
